THE CULTURES OF WEST KALIMANTAN

West Kalimantan is a province of Indonesia. West Kalimantan has various cultures. The cultures of West Kalmantan are formed from many tribes in West Kalimantan. Some factors, such as religion, mystical, environment and combination with other cultures are also important. There are some main tribes in West Kalimantan, such as Malay and Dayak Tribes.


In Malay Tribe, there are some traditional ceremonies, one of them is Robo-robo. Robo-robo is a ritual ceremony in Mempawah. It is a ceremony to commemorate napak tilas from Mas Surya Negara Prince. It is celebrated on wednesday on the last week of Syafar.





One of traditional dances in Malay Tribe is Zapin Dance. Zapin dance is a dance to show happiness. Zapin dance is also used to entertain the audience in a festival.



The famous food in Malay Tribe is "Bubur Pedas". It has special smell. It's color is dark yellow with thick sauce.








Besides Malay Tribe, the main tribe in West Kalimantan is Dayak Tribe. Dayak Tribe has traditional ceremonies. One of them is Gawai Dayak. It is celebrated on the 1st of June every year. People of Dayak Tribe visit their families and friends on this day.



There are many traditional dances in Dayak Tribe, such as Monong, Pingan, Jonggan, and Kinyah Uut Danum. Monong dance is a dance to refuse disease. Pingan dance is a dance to show happiness because of livehood that is given by God. Jonggan is a dance to tell happiness in Dayak's teenagers. Kinyah Uut Danum  is a dance that show a war in Dayak Uut Danum Tribe.



Traditional foods are pansoh, jimut, tumpi', and etc. Pansoh is meat cooked in bamboo. Jimut is cake made from powder. Tumpi' is cake made from powder like as Jimut.
